I graduated from Clemson University with a BA in Secondary Education – Mathematical Sciences and a MEd. in Counseling and Guidance services. Upon graduation I taught High School for 3 years. After starting a family I went into sales for Varsity Brands and continued with them for quite some time. My husband, John, is still with Varsity Brands. Most recently before purchasing Big Mama’s I was the VP of Sales and Marketing for a Gymnastics Leotard Company, OZONE. In February 2015, we purchased Big Mama’s, bought an investment property in Blue Mountain, and were transferred to Indianapolis for 2 years. I left OZONE that fall to manage the gallery full time. We currently live in Germantown, TN and hope to move down here full time in the near future.
I am the mom to 5 beautiful daughters and grandmother to 2 grandsons and 1 granddaughter. 3 of my daughters are married, 1 engaged, and 1 in college. I am a lover of art and pretty things. I also love spreadsheets and numbers. This is our first experience in retail and it has been a fun journey with a huge learning curve. We love being able to provide a spot for local artists to display and sell their art and jewelry.
Approximately 16 years ago Big Mama’s was opened in Grayton Beach. In 2012, the previous owner moved the gallery to Seagrove. In the fall of 2014 we found out about a retail space that was opening up in Ruskin Place Artist Colony. After visiting the location and talking with several other business owners we felt that this is where we should make a new home. Being surrounded by others that feel they same way we do about art has been lovely.
Our shop is a collection of local art and jewelry from approximately 30 artists. We also carry coastal chic home decor and beach items. You can find acrylics, watercolors, alcohol ink, photography, leather and pearl jewelry, sea glass jewelry, string art, sculptures and much more. One of my personal favorites in the home decor line is our floating wine glasses that also can be stuck in the sand. They are so cute and fun.
